Meet our favourite blockheads, Hannah & Clint.
To celebrate the launch of our new Collection with Hannah & Clint, we sat down with the lovely Melbourne based couple to discuss all things art, interior design and the fun (and sometimes mayhem) of their growing family.
Since wrapping up the Block in 2017, What have you been up to?
Wow 2017! It’s hard to believe it’s been 2 years! I don’t think life ever returns to normal after you have been a contestant on The Block. Life was pretty crazy immediately following the show. There were lots of PR commitments and not a day went by where we didn’t get recognised- The Block is a big deal for Melburnian’s. We have had the opportunity to collaborate with some amazing brands since finishing the show. We became a family of 5 and we are about to launch our second artwork collaboration with Artist Lane.
You not only have amazing taste in interiors, but such a playful fashion style (yes – we do love stalking your Instagram). Has design always been a massive part of your life?
Thank You! I just love being a creative person and I have always expressed myself through fashion and design. I guess it goes hand-in-hand for me. After high school I moved to Hong Kong and spent many years working in the fashion industry. The move overseas sparked many passions for me and while I love the fashion industry my true love has and always will be travel, which ultimately lead me to pursue a career in aviation.
Are you guys still block-heads? Will you be watching the show this year?
Once a Block Head Always a Blockhead I say. We are all connected after sharing such a unique experience together. I love following everyone’s journey post block. We will absolutely be watching again. I can’t wait to see what the next batch of Block Heads get up to.
You guys now have 3 kids – how do you manage to juggle everything?
Haha, I certainly don’t juggle everything on my own let me tell you! It’s a two-person team. Clint is an awesome Dad. Even though he has a completely different parenting style to me we just make it work. Generally speaking, I’m pretty organised. I lay everything out the night before and pack school lunches before I go to bed. I like to think I am the organiser of the family. I make sure we have some sort of structure while Clint likes to keep us all hanging on the edge a little. I have learnt over the years to just add an extra shot off coffee and embrace the chaos. Some days I am totally nailing the whole parenting thing and other days my kids eat 2-minute noodles for dinner- I like to call it balance.
Oh, and wine, there is always wine! A big glass of red after the kids go to bed can do a world of good.
This is your second collection with Artist Lane, what is different about it?
We had such an overwhelming response with our first collection, and we can’t wait to share this beautiful collaboration. Our love for watercolour lives on and it’s no surprise blush pink remains the dominant colour in the collection. You will see an introduction of brighter and more playful prints with this collection. Some of our favourite female artists make their comeback showcasing their finest work and we introduce two more to the team.
We love how passionate you are about working with Australian female talent. Has this always been important to you?
Always! I have been so fortunate to collaborate with some of Australia’s finest female talent. I have always been a huge supporter of women supporting women. When women support each other, incredible things happen! Personally, I just want to be one of those women that lift’s people up, cheers them on and supports them in any way I can. Because, we really are better when we work together.
Tell us about how the collection came together? What was your inspiration?
Running off the success of our first collection I tried to maintain a theme that aligns with our current style. It’s the right balance of feminine yet the moody hues and inky blues add that masculine feel. Modern, soft florals round out the collection and coastal vibes take us back to our Queensland roots. I drew inspiration from my travels abroad, more specifically the time I spent in Morocco. Which features pantone colour of the year coral and my all-time favourite peachy hues of terracotta and dusty pink.
We love how you style up art in your home. Is there a piece on your wish list from the collection?
This is a tough one…. You have basically just asked me to pick a favourite child… There is one piece in particular that I’m really excited about! Keep an eye out for ‘Teal Love’ by Jenna Paige. Jenna joins our team as one of our featured artists and her artwork is simply divine! Her artwork is highly inspired by the ocean and other wonders that mother nature offers us.
Clint being the Gold Coast boy that he is has naturally drawn to ‘On The Beach’. It’s the perfect aerial shot that beautifully captures a Summer’s Day on the beach.
Do you have any pieces of your collection with Artist Lane in your house? Can you show us how you style them?
My all-time favourite piece ‘Make Me Blush’ By Fern Siebler hangs proudly in our living room. Everyone who comes to our house comments on it’s beauty. It’s the perfect scale for the room and it just brings a sense of calm to the overall space.
Do you have any interior design secrets you want to share?
Choose a hero. Every room needs one hero piece-something that will evoke thought, conversation and delight. This is why I love working with artwork so much. You can always mix things up by purchasing new art (budget permitting) or simply moving existing artwork around the house can create an entirely new look and feeling to the space.
